A Grand Entrance, Construction Updates, and Immense Gratitude

Hello Friends and Family. We’re closing out the month with an abundance of gratitude and anticipation for what lies ahead at Four Ponds. We’ve made a lot of progress on our production facility and tasting lounge. Our hearts are filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude.

Our Four Ponds family took a moment to reflect over the past year, recalling fond memories of time with our families and marking vineyard milestones. Here’s some of what we’re thankful for.

Suzi

I am grateful for all my four kids. I feel so lucky to have such mature and leveled headed kids…all of them. I thank God every day that they’re healthy and safe, especially the one in the military. I’m also grateful for my Four Ponds team. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, but we compensate for each other’s weaknesses. That, to me, is what makes an incredible team. And without this team, Four Ponds would not have made it this far.

As I look back, my favorite memories are traveling with my kids and having all four of them with me under one roof, which only happened once this year to celebrate my dad’s 80th birthday. My oldest son was able to make it to the birthday party to surprise his grandpa (whom he hasn’t seen for 3 years), which was priceless. When my son came out to surprise his grandpa, I don’t think there was even one dry eye in the crowd.

I would say I’m thankful for the amazing opportunity in the growth and development of Four Ponds. It has been a rewarding and passionate journey. I absolutely love the experiences — from planting in the vineyard, building and landscape designs to the creative element of crafting wines and designing labels.

I am deeply grateful for my health and for the wonderful network of friends and family in my life and the new connections I’ve made this year. I truly believe that with strong support and good friendship, anything is possible. This year has brought incredible progress, both personally and professionally at the winery. Personally, transitioning into this role as part of the core team has been such a positive experience — always learning and growing in something I love. It is a good, challenging experience to see the progress we’ve made. I am very thankful for all that.

My favorite memory at the vineyard was being involved in our first harvest. Waking up at 4 a.m. to sort those delicious grapes and witnessing the process from vine to sorting, crushing, and finally to the aging barrel was an amazing and unforgettable experience. I can’t wait for our 2025 vintage!

From the Winemaker’s Corner

We’ve been making a lot of progress in the vineyard to prep for the cold and rainy winter months ahead. As the vines enter dormancy, they will sleep for the next four to five months. The grapes we harvested have transformed into wine and are ready to age in barrels. The reds will begin malolactic fermentation and the whites will either age a bit in stainless steel barrels or in neutral oak barrels. Our 2024 Marsanne is in a 3-4 week cold stabilization process, which means we can start bottling it in late December or January.

Meanwhile, we’ve added gravel and our entrance gate to the driveway and started landscaping the area. We’ve also added pollinator-friendly hedgerow and landscaping along the areas bordering our property. Our fermentation tanks were delivered in mid-November and the roof is up on our production building. Plumbing and electrical work has begun on our tasting lounge and the concrete slab is poured. It’s so satisfying to see the structures going up and the property transition from a blank canvas of empty soil to our vision coming to fruition. We can’t wait for it all to unfold.
